The Faith of Derby Cathedral
There has been a
church here for more than a 1000 years,
witnessing to Christian faith. Today, as in the
past, there is a community of people who meet
here to sing God’s praises and to share the
faith that has been handed down to us and which
we have made our own through baptism.
We believe in one God who is expressed in three
ways.
God is the origin and creator of all things, a
God of justice, love and compassion, who is like
a parent to his sons and daughters.
We believe that as Jesus Christ, God came in a
unique way, the child of Mary, to be a human
being like us. Jesus showed us what God is like
and, by word and example, gave us a pattern by
which to live. He healed the sick and preached
good news to the poor. In his death on the cross
he reconciled us to God and revealed the depths
of his love for us. He was buried in a tomb but
at Easter God raised him to life and he appeared
to many witnesses.
As Holy Spirit, God invites everyone to share
Christ's risen life and offers them them his own
life-force to strengthen and encourage them with
gifts of love, joy and peace.
Jesus called together a band of followers –
disciples. After the outpouring of the Spirit at
Pentecost, they shared the good news of the
kingdom of God and the resurrection of Jesus.
They grew in numbers and that same company, the
Church of Jesus Christ, is a world-wide faith.
It welcomes all who are searching for faith,
meaning in life and a sense of belonging.
Together we explore the Christian belief, offer
prayers and worship, are fed spiritually in the
bread and wine of Holy Communion, share the good
news of Jesus Christ and try to relate our faith
to every day life.
Join us at any service, but especially at the
Cathedral Eucharist at 10.45 am every Sunday.
