The Cathedral Centre
and Gift shop is located across the road from
the Cathedral, on the opposite side of Iron Gate
Derby Cathedral Centre Gift Shop has a
reputation for “selling something different.”
Retail Manager Linda Hampson says: “We try to
promote the work of as many local crafts people,
artists and writers as possible. This helps us
to stock a wide range of imaginative giftware,
including many items exclusive to our city
centre shop. “And because of our variety and
policy of ‘selling something different,’ we
pride ourselves that we can help customers
overcome those ‘I can’t think what to get’
difficulties and choose the right present for
the right person.”
We
stock a comprehensive selection of high quality
toiletries including Bronnley and Norfolk
Lavender.
Among our most popular gifts are scented
candles and beautiful wax bowls made in
Tissington by Annie Maudling, known locally as
Annie Candle.
We have a large and varied selection of greeting
cards and notecards to suit different
occasions. Many are locally made and feature
Derbyshire scenes.
Books written by many local authors a wide range
of subjects including local history and
Derbyshire heritage are sold in the shop. We
also stock a large selection of cookery,
gardening and gift book, many at bargain price.
Also available is a mouth-watering range of
preserves and chutneys, started as a hobby by
two local mums and was launched thanks to
encouragement by the Derby Cathedral Centre gift
shop which recognised the high quality of their
product.
There is also a special selection of chocolates
displaying the cathedral logo. These make an
ideal souvenir of Derby Cathedral or a momento
of your visit.
Linda Hampson adds:
“While we try to support local
crafts people and gift makers, we have not
forgotten that we are a Cathedral shop. We stock
a wide range of religious requisites, including
candles and wafers, and confirmation, communion,
christening and baptism gifts and cards. We also
sell adult and children’s bibles and many
religious books covering numerous subjects.
Children are also not forgotten. Our aim is to
stock traditional toys, which are constructive
and entertaining and encourage the use of the
imagination. Our young customers can skip or
play marbles, do some French knitting or play
pick up sticks and jacks. Our toys and books
offer the quality of yesteryear while suiting
today’s child."
After making their purchases in
the gift shop, visitors are invited to take
refreshment in the award winning Cathedral
Centre Coffee Shop which serves light lunches,
teas and coffees.
As well as the ground floor
dining area, there is extra room in the
basement, where customers can view the precious
books, silver and vestments displayed in the
Cathedral Treasury. The basement also doubles as
an exhibition area that regularly features the
work of local artists, photographers and crafts
people, there is also additional seating for the
coffee shop.
Visitors are also welcome to
explore the Centre garden that has been designed
with paths and features reflecting the life of
Christ. Disabled access is available to both
shops, the Treasury, exhibition area and the
garden.
